Nasu Town is home to Mt. Chausu, the only active volcano in Tochigi Prefecture. It rises
1,917 meters above sea level.
The crater is about 100 meters in diameter and 60 meters deep.
The smoke constantly rising from the mountain can even be seen from Kurodahara, the
center of Nasu Town.
From the top of the mountain, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Nasu Plateau. In
October, the maple leaves change colors and the scene is breath-taking. Nasu Town is also
rich in greenery.
While enjoying this wonderful view, it doesn't seem possible that the earth will
ever become dry like a desert. 41.1% of this town is covered in rich forests, so, we have
fresh air and pure water due to this fact. Nasu Town covers a land mass of 372.3E@
and is located in the north of Tochigi Prefecture. The average temperature of the year is
18.4. The yearly rainfall average is 2,239mm.
In the winter, skiing can be enjoyed in the mountainous areas. More than 4 million
tourists come to Nasu every year.
